If you’ve been thinking about a kitchen remodel, you’re not alone. According to the 2025 “U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study,” kitchens are getting bigger and bolder. Thirty-five percent of homeowners are expanding their kitchens during renovations, with 29% reclaiming space from their dining rooms and 12% from their living rooms.
The role of the kitchen has evolved. It’s no longer just a place to cook—it’s where people gather, work, and connect. With nearly half of U.S. homes now more than 42 years old, many homeowners are redesigning outdated layouts to better suit modern lifestyles, giving the kitchen a central and open role as the heart of the home.
Kitchen remodels remain one of the most valuable home upgrades. The average cost has climbed to $60,000, up from $55,000 last year. High-end projects start around $72,000 and go up from there. With 86% of homeowners hiring professionals, it’s clear that many are making serious, lasting investments in the space.
As homeowners aim for a balance of style, function, and technology, certain trends are standing out. Ceiling-high backsplashes are extending tile or stone all the way up for a sleek, dramatic effect. Transitional design still leads, but classic traditional styling is making a comeback, now outpacing both modern and contemporary looks.
